Muscat Municipality will organise a Muscat Fashion Week at Riyam Park from January 15 to 17.
The event will showcase the collections of 12 Omani and regional designers – both established names and upcoming ones.
This year’s lineup again sees Omani designer Nawal al Hooti and Dibaj, among other designers. They will be joined by Saudi Arabia-based Razan al Azzouni, UAE-based Mauzan and Qatar’s Toujouri. Other participants include Das Collection, Tatyana Aceeva, Zhor Rais, Kanzi, C’Est Moi, Endemage and Ahmed Talfit.
“The collections for the 2013 fashion week are very exciting,” Muscat Municipality chairman H E Eng Sultan bin Hamdoon al Harthy said at a press conference on Saturday. “We are very proud of our heritage and it is our responsibility to encourage desi-gners from this region to be ambassadors to the wider world through creative expression. Muscat Fashion Week is the perfect platform for them to do this.”
Seif al Rashidy, director general of information and external relations at Muscat Municipality, said that they are committed to taking the event to an international level.
Malik al Hinai, one of the organisers, said it was not possible to compete with those who have been in the industry for a long time. “The event will showcase unique eastern fashion, and we aim to make Muscat a hub for fashion in the region.”
He added that they are grooming upcoming Omani designers who can take part in Muscat Fashion Week in future.
The municipality announced that some designers’ collections will also be showcased in an exhibition at the Royal Opera House Muscat from January 16-17.
